Information

There are many small copper deposits in the Flinders Ranges and mining was carried out in the area from the 1860s. Blinmin was the largest mine in the Flinders and completed construction of the Bolla Bollana smelter in December 1873.

It is a fascinating history which tells of insurmountable obstacles to be overcome in the mining and smelting of copper, one of which was the isolation of the area. The above link gives a more detailed overview of the smelter at Bolla Bollana.

Today, there is the beehive kiln still to be seen among other relics from this part of the copper mining history in the Flinders Ranges.
