Callanna Siding is the first of many relics of the Old Ghan railway line located 14km from
Marree on the
Oodnadatta Track. Travellers along the
Oodnadatta Track can enjoy stopping at each of these sidings and exploring the
ruins.
An impressive
water tank (abandoned) and standpipe is all that remains at Callanna Siding but is worth a visit.
These railway sidings were used to refill the steam locomotives of the old ghan railway. Fettlers lived in small cottages at the sidings and maintained the site as
well as the railway line between the sidings.
