The
Beverley Soaring Society (BSS) is the largest gliding club in Western Australia and also the closest to the
Perth metropolitan area, being less than two hours away by car.
We have a large club fleet of three two-
seat aircraft, four single-
seat aircraft and two Pawnee tow planes. Our members also have some 37 privately owned gliders at our airfield.
Our panel of qualified and highly-experienced volunteer gliding instructors are rostered on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of each weekend to teach the skills of soaring to anyone from a teenager through to airline pilots following the Gliding Federation Australia training syllabus.
We also offer Air Experience Flights for anyone who would like to experience the thrill of gliding and get an amazing view of the beautiful Avon Valley. Visitors welcome.
Our air-conditioned clubhouse houses the main briefing room, large kitchen dining area, canteen, training room, and three bunk rooms with beds. A large sheltered veranda covers the front with BBQs nearby. WIFI is available in the clubhouse.
Adjacent to the clubhouse, two
toilet blocks provide a total of four toilet/shower units. One is set up for disabled
toilet access.
Once in
Beverley, turn east into Vincent Street (this is the main street with the Dome service station on the corner). Drive through the shopping area and take the first turn right after the
Avon River bridge into Lukin St. Drive 1.5 km in a southerly direction. On the right, you will see the WWII Vampire Bomber by the
gate at
the entrance to the airfield.
Once on the airfield, follow the gravel road along to the launch point (where the gliders likely are waiting) or the clubhouse.
