Kalgan
Pool is located at the end of the Kalgan Creek Track just before it connects with the
Three Pools -
Eagle Rock Road. For more information about the
waterhole, see the separate Place listing for Kalgan
Pool.
Free camping is allowed at Kalgan
Pool Camp. There are actually two spots to
camp - either on the side you arrive on, or cross to the other side. There is also a
lookout on the escarpment above
the pool (take the steep track behind the
cliff) where you can
camp with a view looking down however this is exposed and quite rocky but a good option if you arrive to find it busy.
Dogs and campfires are permitted. No facilities. Please be thoughtful and take out all rubbish and use a portable
toilet.
You must have a permit (apply online via BHP Railway or go to
Newman Visitor Centre) to visit Kalgan
Pool or anywhere else in the area as you will need to use the railway service line to access the Kalgan Creek Track and access is definitely 4WD high clearance only with numerous deep water crossings - water flows through the creek due to controlled flows from the aquifer released via the Mt Hope
Mine.
