Trailhead for numerous walks in the
Budj Bim National Park and around
the crater rim (Mt Eccles) and
Lake Surprise.
Lava Canal Walk – the Lava Canal Walk is a 6.5km return circuit which follows the floor of lava flow that began with the volcanic eruption of
Budj Bim 30,000 years ago. Along this walk you will see the broken basalt of the old lava flows, lava blisters and stop at
Tunnel Cave, a remnant of lava flow activity where you can explore.
Crater
Rim Walk – Meander along
the Crater Rim Walk and skirt the edge of the now dormant volcano before climbing to the peak of ‘Mount’
Budj Bim. Take in
views over
Lake Surprise and spot koalas among the Manna Gums and
Blackwood forest before descending back to
Budj Bim Campground.
Natural Bridge Walk –
the Natural Bridge Walk follows an ancient lava flow where the roof has collapsed. At the end of the walk, you will come to a section where the roof of the lava flow remains intact, forming a
cavern that you can explore. There’s a good chance you’ll spot koalas and kangaroos on the walk if you keep your eyes peeled
