Site of the eastern end of the 22.2 km long Eucumbene - Tumut tunnel, completed in 1959 as part of the
Snowy Mountains Scheme. Water stored in Lake Eucumbene is usually diverted westwards to Tumut Pondage, then four power stations on the Tumut River. Access to this site could be by boat or on land by pushbike or on foot. The road is MVO. This would involve a 450 m descent from the Happy Jacks Rd on the ridge at 1600 m to the lake at 1150 m and then back up again. Public access is occasionally given to car clubs.
The tunnel portal is under 10 to 50 metres of water depending upon the storage level in the lake so the trashracks are not usually visible.
