The purpose of this site, as explained by Lewis K:
"In 1983 a mate of
mine in
Perth (surveyor by trade) decided to calculate the most remote place in Australia. He used the GPO's in all capitals as the reference point and then started working on how far you could get (as the crow flies) from a capital city but still be on the mainland.
So 14 strings of calculations later, he had established the location and named it "Centroid 14". He then set out and drove to the site built a marker, left a message in a milk tin and returned back to
Perth."
During a later visit,
the spot was located using GPS, and marked with "a steel pole concreted into the ground with the appropriate
plaque and compass points attached."

https://www.exploroz.com/forum/138553/centroid-14-my-quest-continuesOver time, slightly different sets of coordinates have been provided--in both lat/long and UTM--for this site. However, the people providing them did not specify which datum or ellipsoid was used. So the coordinates here could be off slightly but should be within 100 meters of the location (and are probably much closer than that).
If you visit, please report the precise coordinates and the datum/ellipsoid in use, and post them as a comment! Please also share some photos of the site.
The site can be reached via a faint track from the Giles-Mulga Park Road. The track is visible on Bing Maps. I have already added a "place" for the turnoff.
