Information

Miena Rockfill Dam is built just down stream on the Shannon River of the original multiple arch concrete dam. The concrete structure was the first dam on the river at this location. It was built to back up the Shannon River which caused the flooding of two smaller dams to create the Great Lake. This supplied a constant flow of water into Shannon Lagoon to ultimately reach the turbines of the Waddamana hydro power station.

The multiple arch concrete dam is sometimes flooded what the lake backs up against the higher stone wall.
