homestead built in 1838 and occupied by Joseph Hawdon an "overlander" from NSW until 1856. The Jamieson brothers leased part of the
Tallarook run and built
Tallarook house from stone. The front part of the present
homestead still has its original shake roof under the present roof. The
homestead was extended to its present size in 1862. Landscape was later occupied by the industrialist Essington Lewis in his later years until his death in 1961.It was again extensively renovated in the year 2000 but remains listed as a
heritage site on the Victorian
Heritage database.
This historic property cannot be appreciated from the street view but if you cycle along the Great Victorian Rail Trail which runs behind it you'll get to view the incredible gardens.
