The first main
junction where the track ventures east from
Dalhousie Springs into the
Simpson Desert is called Freeth
Junction. This
junction intersects with ‘Rocks Road’ which is an ‘Emergency Use Only’ track that heads south through
Macumba Station to
Oodnadatta. This is a very rough and rugged track and permission to travel on it must be sought from both National Parks and Kidman Pastoral Company.
From the signpost at
the junction there is no obvious track to the south which would be the Rocks Rd. Freeth
Junction may be thought of as the place where the
Finke River ends and soaks into the desert.
