One of the WA
Painted Silo Trail silos. Painted in September 2016 by Amok Island. The silos depict the ‘Six Stages of Banksia baxteri’. All six sides of the three silos are painted, with one stage painted on each silo. Showing the development from flower buds to full bloom, to seed pods developing, then drying out and opening. This particular species of Banksia is native to Western Australia and only between
Esperance and
Albany. The animals depicted in the murals are the Honey Possum and the New Holland Honey Eater, both of which are the main pollinators for this particular plant.
It took Amok Island 31 days to complete the
mural using approximately 338 litres of paint.
This is a fully operational working site so site access inside the fence is NOT allowed. Bus and Caravan
parking is available directly opposite the silos and the silos can be seen from the other side by walking around along the outer fence.
