Memorial to the Aboriginal Women that were brought to
Kangaroo Island from the nearby
Fleurieu Peninsula and
Kangaroo Island. Betty Thomas, a Tasmanian Aboriginal woman was brought to
Kangaroo Island in 1827 and with her husband, Nat Thomas had 3 children and farmed the area until 1878. Their eldest daughter, Mary was the first official child born in South Australia in 1833, 3 years before South Australia was officially settled.
