Driving around New Norfolk

Yesterday we had a rest day, just washing etc.
Today we drove around New Norfolk checking out some of the local attractions. The town has a lot of historic buildings that are quite well preserved, some have been converted to displays and other uses. We couldn't visit one of the town lookouts as the road was closed due to it being a public holiday. The other lookout (Pulpit Rock) has a very windy and steep gravel road leading to it and is unsuitable for large Vehicles. The view once you get there is magnificent. On arrival it looks like a rough car park surrounded by trees, but if you look carefully there is a short, old walking track leading to the actual Pulpit Rock where the trees do not block the view.



We then took a drive on the spur of the moment to a place called "Lachlan" about 7 km from New Norfolk. The area is a farming area renown for good quality food. We stopped at a local shop to buy an ice-cream and met 2 people we knew from Sale. They had moved to the area and bought the shop and restaurant about 15 months ago. It was a surprise for both of us and completely unexpected. It turns out that their restaurant and the hamburgers from the shop have an excellent reputation amongst the locals and as far away as Hobart.
