We left
our camp at
Waratah and headed south to Savage River, nothing of great interest here except for the construction
camp for the
mine. Motoring along a good road through the forests to
Corinna where I saw my first native animal for the trip, a Paddy Melon wallaby.
Corinna is a quiet quaint place with a pub and a few historical buildings. Quite picturesque , a good stop for a cuppa. We then proceeded across the Pieman River by barge and continued weaving our way through forests to
Zeehan. Quite a large town with schools, accommodation for mining personal and a few shops. A nice meal was had at Carols Café and a walk through town past the museum and other
shop. Then it was back on the road to Rosebery. Rosebery is quite a large town with another
mine and old mining relics plus shops and houses. This led us past the Renison
Mine,
Montezuma Falls and the Pieman
Lake, which is quite large. There is also Mt Black
Mine, the Murchison
Dam and the
Mackintosh Dam. This road is in the process of being upgraded so there was quite a delay with road works. but eventually we made it back to
Waratah where we had left the van for a much need glass or two of wine.
