Canning Stock Route - Winter Adventure Travel

The Canning Stock Route (CSR) is one of the most remote and isolated 4WD tracks in the world and holds it appeal as the "last frontier". Stretching about 1850km from its southern end in Wiluna, to its northern end at Billiluna Community on the Tanami Track, there are no towns or major services along the way, making this one of the most challenging winter travel adventures in Australia.

Canning Stock Route

The story of Alfred W. Canning and the development and subsequent use of the 1800 kilometre long Canning Stock Route from Halls Creek to Wiluna is told in this new volume. Original historical documents are combined with oral history in a narrative that covers the origins of the stock route, surveying, construction of the wells, droving, deaths and murders, exploration and prospecting, well restoration, identities and adventurers, place name origins and tourism.

This new book features photographs, maps, exploration and droving journals that have never been published before. Mysteries of the stock route are solved, and long-held beliefs and myths corrected. Although not a travel guide, this title provides an in-depth look at the CSR that gives travellers an excellent sense of perspective when travelling this route.
