The Red Centre - May 2009: Palm Valley

This place is just a magic spot. Camp at Hermannsburg (don't be daunted, it was peaceful) and it's an easy 21km drive along and around the Finke River. Cross the electric fence, go over a few ledges and you're there. This time we took the 5km walk which takes you up the cliiff and across a plateau till you drop down into the upstream end of the valley. Fantastic views over desert rock formations in a panorama the camera just can't quite capture. Follow the dry creekbed downstream through the shady palms back to the cars. It's an easy day in terms of minimal driving and walking. Then you can be back at the campsite for a siesta and be refreshed for beer o'clock! See more pix in Places.
