We are ofto the Diamantina Lakes at the end of this week.
Has anyone got any hints on how to fish there ? eg. bait, do you need a kayak or small tinnie ?

We have now been to the Diamantina Park.
We drove from Winton and followed the old stock route that runs down the east side of the Diamantina river to Old Cork. The track was good.
We stayed a couple of nights there with about 8 other groups who were good company and were there for a couple of weeks or more. Plenty of water in river, the other campers had been catching yellow belly but we only managed a few grunters. There had been sightings and photos to prove of 2 salt water crocs there !
We then drove down to the NP and looked at both camping sights; we decided on the Hunters Gorge as the views of the surrounding hills were beautiful. The other site Gum Hole did not really have any views and wild cats had been coming into the campsites and raiding any food they could find.
Hunters Gorge waterhole was covered in Pelicans fishing for catfish fingerlings - the only thing we caught was small catfish in our yabby traps.
A climb to the top of the hill near the campsite was a must and also the view from Janets Leap. The Warracoota round trip is OK if you have enough fuel.
We departed south on the road through Davenport and Monkira. The road was good
