Sitting next to Mundawerra
Waterhole on the Diamantina River, Hunters
Gorge camping area offers incredible opportunities for fishing and birdwatching.
On the access track to Hunters
Gorge look for the two impressive landmarks:
Moses Cone rising from the river to the east, and
Mount Mary forming the eastern side of
the gorge.
The turn-off to the
camping area is 10km north-west of the
Ranger Base on Springvale Diamantina River Road. Travel 10km north-west on Springvale Diamantina River Road and then right into the signposted Hunter
Gorge track. The
camping area is 3.5km down this road.
The large and long Mundawarra
waterhole fills
the gorge on the Diamantina River in the
Diamantina National Park.
Bush camping allowed but a camping permit is required. The
camping area is
well suited to camper trailers but has few shade trees and is exposed to frequent high winds. The
camping area can only be reached by 4WD and camper trailers and caravans with high clearance. Fires permitted (except during fire ban periods).
