We are touring Tassie next month and would like to see if we can travel from Zeehan to Arthur River along the Western Explorer Hwy with a Nissan Pathfinder towing a 17ft pop-top - basic van except for a 4in lift & 4WD tyres. Can we fit on the ferry or do we have to come in from Savage River. Any comments on road conditions would be appreciated. Thanks Jolo

Hi Jolo
Shouldn't be a problem with your vehicle and van on the fatman barge
easly fitted two 80 series landcrusiers.
As for the road conditions from Zeehan 12 months ago was ok and a good gravel road all the way to West point, though a bit narrow in the twisty bits and a nearly got cleaned up buy some coming the other way too fast around a corner.
Well worth he drive wish i had more time.

Here are the dimensions - work it out yourself. The prime measurement you did not supply is distance between the centre of the front axle to the centre of the rear axle. There are other dimensions to work around, you will have to do your own figuring.still do the northern

If you can't fit the ferry, just do the northern section. It's worth doing that and exit the Explorer via Waratah.
