Hi there,
Thinking about buying a 2011 Nissan PAthfinder STL diesel. Any thoughts on their towing ability(Tambo camper), onroad ride and off road ability.

Would get 2in Old Man Emu lift and some AT tyres.

Any thought would b great from owners or those that see them on the tracks..

Thanks alot,

Matt

Mattd

I can not comment on the 2011 Pathfinder however i have the 2005 which has less power and i tow a 24.5 foot caravan(2.9tonne) with easy, might suck a bit more juice but does a good job.

The standard suspension is no where as good so upgrading to the old man emu will be a good idea.

Thanks for that. Looks like you give it a go out there.

What mods are a good option Vern??

How does it go compared to the Pajaros, Prados and the like?

Thanks, Matt

Also, what underbody protection do you have on the Pathfinder?

I have done the below list

bull bar,snorkel+ winch, UHF,tyredogs,scan gauge,gps,thumper battery,fridge,tilt slide,draw system,50lt water tank,awning,2" lift, poly airs,extended diff breathers,spot lights,highlift jack, shovel mount, under body protection.

The poly airs are good if you are towing, I am not sure about the 2011 Pathy but with the 2005 the Nissan tow bar does not allow load levelling devices and I have read that the tow bars have fallen of the vehicle so I changed mine over to Hayman Reese.

The under body protection is from Mitchell Bros 4x4 and more, shipped to SA was about $400 and for me well worth it as It has already suffered some damage and I prefer that gets damaged than something more serious.

This site will help you it for the Nissan Pathfinder of Australia forum, there is a lot of knowledge on there that can also assist you.

I have a 2009 Pathy and tow a 2.5 t caravan fully loaded and it pulls it easy.
Apart from bash plates, polly airbags and a chip it is stock standard.
I love the vehicle. The only problem I have had is with the passenger electric window assy but that was fixed under warranty. Some people go crook about Nissans warranty but with this car and my 2002 Pathy I have only had good experiences.

We have a 2010 ST-L with the 140kW, 450Nm motor as has the 2011 model. We tow a 1900kg van with absolute ease. We do have Air-lift 1000's (similar to Polyairs) but because we also use a Hayman Reese tow-bar and WDH (Nissan do not recommend using a WDH with their tow bar & I wouldn't tow without one), find the air bags superfluous. When towing, we only run them with 12 psi. The car is still new with only 15K klm about 4K of which has been towing. We are delighted with it and did take similar vehicles of the "other" brands for a test drive (for what they're worth) and selected the Pathfinder. After having a 6 speed DSG TDI VW (brilliant) as my last drive, the only real criticism I have with the Pathfinder so far is that with the low down torque of this new motor, the auto is reluctant to drop down a gear as readily as I'd like. I generally tow in manual mode anyway.
Haven't stopped smiling!

i own a 2009 ST-L Pathy and although i dont tow much other than a 7x4 trailer i do take her off road a bit and she handles it all without a problem. my aftermarket mods include a snorkel, bullbar, OME suspension with 30mm lift and Bridgestone Dueler A/Ts and she rides fine over the rough stuff. never had a problem with it and have never needed any under body protection. it has been through Kakadu including recently down to Jim Jim Falls and also very recently out to the Roper river....(about an hour and a half off road from Tomato Island and all without a problem.

I definitely recommend them !!!!
