We travelled it west-east early June.
The track is beautiful at the moment because of the february rains. Masses of flowers, especially on the SA side and lots of bird life. Hopefully all still there for you in September.
South Australian side has probably the worst corrugations but there are many sidetracks around the worst bits.
Track from the roadhouse to Neale Junction is mostly very good.
Track west of Neale Junction had a lot of water and washouts and was as slow as anything on the South Australia side until the mining activity near Yamarna Homestead is reached.
We met a works manager from Laverton Shire on our way out from Yamarna. He was on his way to inspect the road so maybe it will get graded. We ran into some people who came through a week after us who said that they encountered a Road Closed sign for the road going east from Yamarna - they were going west so came at from behind, so to speak. So, not sure what the story is with that.
Of the six parties we encountered in our week on the track, three were having problems. Two parties had a vehicle with shock absorber problems. The other party was a single vehicle on dual-fuel and his petrol system had stopped working; he was a mechanic but couldn't fix it. He was heading out for Coober Pedy - 300 km with only 200km worth of gas. Sure there's some luck involved but I slept much better on the track knowing that my tyres and suspension were in really good nick.

Just came back from their, we did it twice, left in May and went through from Nullabor road house to Cook and up to Vokes Hill and then West to Laverton We have just cam back accross from West to East Left Marble Bar and came down the Gary Hwy/Gunbarrel then on to Warburton down the Connie Sue to Neale Junction then finnished at Coober Pedy. Trip was excellent with incredible sceneray. On our way in in May we did not see a sole for 6 days, then we had a group of Prados from SA (Hope they read this) who flew past and could not be bothered to say good day. You will love this adventure. Take your time don't rush the corregations East of Emu and take in all the place has to offer.
The Ilurka Road House is excellent spend a little money their and support them. Great people and doing a great job
Bob, we took 12 days to do the first crossing and 10 for the second, we were on our own towing a Tvan. It's a wonderfull journey.
PM me if you wisdh for any other info.

Hey Bob, We are planning on a west east crossing in early October. we heard from the Ilkurlka roadhouse that the road from WA has been graded and is fantastic. Apparently the last bloke to grade the east side was Len Beadell! So not exactly recent!
We would be pleased to hear any updates if you go over before us.

Cheers,
Ben and tribe

Hi Ben, We have also heard the same, hopefully this is not the case but only time will tell. We will be travelling before you so I will update you as soon as we can as we will probably be home sometime around the time you leave which may be a little late for you. Might be able to post a photo or two with any luck. Bob.v
