Hi Denley,
Welcome and good luck with your travels.

If you are going to Newnes then make sure you have a look at GlenDavis.
I understand they have a free camp site there with showers now and the owner of the old Shale Oil Works site conducts tours now and again. Both Newnes and Glen Davis were sister complexes in their hey day. There was even some plan to pipe shale oil over the range to Newnes to the railhead there. I lived in Glen Davis for about 3 years around 1970 and worked at various jobs around the area.

While in the area you might want to check out Hill End and the Bridle track below Hill End. some great camp spots there. Sofala is another good spot to check out.

There are a million things to do it the areas you are talking about. Have fun.
All the best, Bruce.
At home and at ease on a track that I know not and
restless and lost on a track that I know. HL.

Bruce
I have not been to Newnes for years (before they moved the Pub) but I have walked the track from Newnes to Glen Davis & was lucky to get a tour of Glen Davis from old miner who had been one of miners who had Sat in the mine on strike (i think it was 30days? but not sure its 30 odd years ago) he lived in one of the few homes that had not been pulled down & moved
Glen Davis had a lot to see & was worth the effort
