Hi All
Things have been quite lately on the progress of the floodwaters coming down the Cooper. I was speaking to Patsy from Etadunna this morning and I asked the usual question, 'how is the Cooper going?'
Patsy said that the main water body is still coming, but in no real hurry. It is
well past the
Lake Harry inlet and still has not reached the actual ferry site as yet. There is also another body of water coming down behind the body that is coming down, so we will all get to have another ferry ride, but at this stage, the million dollar question is when!!
Without being a gambler, Patsy said it could still take another month before reaching the actual
Birdsville Track, it is just travelling that slow. I also asked on the mouse problem and Patsy was also saying they mow have lots of rats to contend with as
well, so anyone heading up that way make sure that all food supplies and other valuable are out of their way.
One local that just got back from
Marree yesterday said he left earlier that he had anticipated, because of the mice chewing at his swag all nigh.
Until my next update....
Cheers to All
Stephen

Hi Geoff
Thanks for that. I know that there are others out there that are following the progress just as I do, and it is my little contribution to the
forum with current, accurate information, from friends that I know that live right there at the centre of all the action.
Cheers

The wife and I have just returned from
Marree via Cameron's Corner and up the Cobb highway from
Melbourne and the Mice started about
Hay and followed us all the way but our Oz tent kept them out. At Corner they were the thickest and would pounce on anything dropped on the ground at the
camp kitchen.
We had intended to spend the weekend in your fine town but could find nowhere to stay because of the wine and food festival, perhaps next time.
Regards.

Hi TTD
When a friend of
mine who was up there and told me that the mice were all over his swag, I was wondering how people would go in a tent. Like you, we also have an Oztent and had thoughts that they may chew a hole in the tent and ruin it.
We were collecting wood over the last weekend, with perfect weather. The Gourmet Weekend for me is a good weekend to keep away from
Clare, as there are just too many people around, with every form of accommodation booked out months in advance.
Glad you gad a great time away.
Cheers
Stephen

Thank you Steve, I echo the feelings of the others on your timely and informative updates on the Cooper. I hope to get there again this year once the ferry is running, more interesting that way.

Hi Jeff
Thanks also. Like you, we intend to return also for another ride on the updated ferry and are now just waiting for the next body of water to get there.
Once things become more defined, I will again let all know here on the
forum with the latest from those that are there on site to pass on the information.
I only wish it was there now, as Patsy was saying the weather up there on the
Birdsville Track at the moment is just perfect and they have not had any rain for some time now.
Cheers
Stephen

Hi Jon
That is about the time that we hope to head up there as
well. I can assure you that the update will continue and the moment that I have the good news, all those on the
forum will be the first to hear about it.
As for the mice, I would not hit the panic buttons just yet, as like in the Mid North where I live, the moment that we get our first real cold snaps in the weather, you will find that it will kill a very good number of those little rodents.
The only thing that I will be a little careful of is not the mice, but snakes. I have not asked Patsy or Jason about them, but usually nature will respond with measure to try and control problems like this. The more mice there is the more plentiful the snakes will be also, They may not be a problem on a cold night, but on those perfect sunny days, they will be hunting their prey, yes those little mice and rats.
Cheers
Stephen

Hi Warren
There are more snakes in the outback than you would ever think, but you never hear of anyone ever having any problems with them. Believe me, my wife would be the very first person to vanish at the thought of any snake in
our camp.
They are more scared of us that we are of them and they will disappear at the first vibrations that they feel.
You will have a fantastic trip from where you are going and I bet the chances of you actually seeing a snake up close are
well, very slim indeed.
Have a great trip.
Cheers
Stephen
