If this low off the NW develops into a cyclone and moves inland over the Kimberleys, it's going to dump bucket loads of rain in the area yet again. Won't be good for anyone planning an early trip along the Gibb River Road.

It will be interesting to watch developments ove the next few days.

Yup, It's a worry Peter.
Felicity and I have been planning a trip 'round the Island since we ordered our vehicle (VW Trakkadu) inJune 2010. We're on the verge of leaving home (Bris), April 9th via North Qld & guess what.. it's still bucketing down up there on roads large chunks of which have been under water more than clear so far this year!
Our plan is to be in Cairns end of April then across the Savannah Way to Broome by mid July.We are committed to go, with travel and accom booked for a visit to Horn Island April 29th and a few days.
There may be somewhat different conditions to what we had hoped for.
We might have to avoid the GRR and go by Great Northern Hwy instead. Fortunately we enjoyed a wonderful tour along GRR/Kalumburu Rd etc about five years ago but we are/were hoping to do it again in our own time.
I'll be watching this forum and other options to learn what folk are experiencing in the
North during the next couple of months!
Are you heading that way too?
Rgds to all Richard R

Easter last year we had 8M of water flowing over the Nicholson river at Doomadgee, Burktown, Gregory Downs and most around here were cut off for months ........
Has been about 10 weeks since we could get trucks in here, it is looking like it may dry up now but dont cross ya fingers eh..
Good luck.

Richard, Yes we are leaving in 3 weeks, first spending some time in Townsville seeing family etc before heading west, due in Kununurra mid-May. Intended leaving the van and tenting it along the GRR and a few other spots - depending on the weather of course!

We were supposed to leave 2 weeks ago but Yasi put paid to that, and have reached our annual rainfall already so we are totally over this wet season. We are hoping for a dry winter in the west.

With all the wet weather the Bruce Hwy is worse than ever, so take care. Can't see all the pot holes being filled by the end of the month, and there's some biggies.

dont forget it is not un-common for cyclones to be around in April, cyclone Monica was a Cat 5 when it crossed the coast in Arnhem Land and the Anzac service was cancelled in Darwin because of it, many cyclones form even in late May and if planning on travelling the Gibb River road even in May would or should at least plan for rain and it being where it is it will mostly rain buckets cause that is what it does up there ....
Welcome to the "big wet"..
