The Birdsville track is closed at present, you can check out road conditions here on this site for all states. Also the red lines on the map of oz on the home page is a quick reference to whats closed.

Niel the birdsville track is closed at the moment up until Mungerannie.

Check out the transport depts. road conditions website and ring one of the local pubs for road/track conditions.

Check the BOMeteorology forecast as rain can shut down anything and everything as we have just seen.

Hi Neil

With time on your side, anything can happen. Bookmark this web page for the best up to date details of where you wish to travel:

http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/quicklinks/northern_roads/area1.asp

This link will take you direct to the Outback Roads area that includes the Birdsville Track.

Cheers

Hi Neil, we are planning to be out there next month also... travelling between the 12th and 28th of March and doing a round trip from Gold Coast - Alice - Kings - Uluru - then down to the lake and up through Birdsville - hopefully! Will be watching the road conditions very keenly! The great news is the lake is filling as we speak, check out the Lake Eyre Yacht Club site if you haven't already. Specifically the lake conditions page with the latest info and satellite shot. http://www.lakeeyreyc.com/Status/latest.html#bottom
