Simpson Desert

The Simpson Desert can be crossed via the French Line, WAA line or Rig Road. This trek provides a route using a combination of all 3 routes.

Will be crossing the Simpson with another leaving from Brisbane 21 June via Charlieville, Windorah, Birdsville then 4 nights across desert - French Line then ot ther rock etc and back home via Coober Pedy etc. Latest intel is good indicating that a crossing from the east will be possible from 11 June 2010. Anyone going to be out there around this time?

We are a party of 6 vehicles doing the East to West crossing (we hope) around June 25th (itinerary date so far), all going well we hope to do it in 4 days and provided we can get all the way across, be in Birdsville 29th June, so keep an eye out for "The Motley Crew" and say gidday if we cross paths - have a great trip!!

It was a while ago now but when we crossed West-East the crests were steep for oncoming vehicles. Came across a shorty that broke all 4 shockies.

just a thought.

A friend who has just come back from the desert tells me that they to make new tracks to Big Red with guidance from the "Elders" and got over to take a look. It was a lake either side! Could go no further. It will be interesting to see what it is like in 9 days.

I will ask him, but I suspect that nothing comes for free. I had a guy in Oonadatta trying to sell me a coloured rock and was offended when I declined.

We will be crossing East to West from Birdsville leaving Birdsville on the 23rd of June as part of our "Coast to Coast" Ride. We are a party of four motorbikes who are riding from futhest Eastern Point to Furthest Western Point accross the Centre of Australia via the French Line(Simpson Desert) and Gunbarrell Highway(Great Sandy Desert) all in three weeks!! So please watch out for us!!!!
