We have been looking at the Island Star Caravans available from Noel's in Adelaide. They look realy good but being new to all this we would interested to hear from owners about them. Thank you for your time.

My Island Star from Noel's was made in Melbourne - and I had to take it back there to get some warranty work done. Couldn't manage to have it done at Noels.

Hi Rick,
Have had one for about 5 years, a 16 ft single axle Concorde poptop. Has off road wheels and independent leaf spring suspension. Only has a 4 inch chassis but this van has been quite amazing! It has been up the Strez, the Birdsville, Oodnadatta track, Mereenie loop, across the top of Lake Torrens, Mulga Park, Finke and many other places. Have not broken anything, but did replace the leaf springs about a year ago 'cos they were looking a tad sad, but still functioning.

I shouldn't admit this, but with everything full (including an extra water tank and gas bottle which I fitted), it comes in about 50 kg overloaded, so I haven't been easy on the old girl.

The one thing I will say is that they tend to be fairly heavy on the ball weight, so load with that in mind. Altogether, no complaints at all and an extremely reliable and well built van.

After all that, I have just traded her in on a brand new Galaxy tandem as the better half wanted a bathroom. Why a Galaxy? Cos they were the only one who could build me a semi off-road poptop low enough to fit under my carport. I just hope the Galaxy does as good a job as the Island Star has.

Cheers
Gerry

Hi Matt & Julie,

My carport is 2.2 m high, but it is also on a slope which makes it more difficult as well. They tell me they can get it down to 2.18, but I guess we'll see how it turns out. With the current van, I have to let the tyres down, but it goes in (just!).

Cheers
Gerry
