Go for it, mean average for Leigh creek in October 26.9 degrees, cooler in the hills normally. Not to say you can't get a hot one though.

I'm heading to the Flinders for the Oct long weekened, it'll be the third time I've been at that time. The first time it poured with rain most of the time, the second was perfect weather. Just go for it, you can't do anything baout the weather so just roll with what it throws at you.

We stayed in the Hawker CP about 10 years ago, most of the Flinders was rained out that time. About 3 years ago we camped at Angorichina Station and then on to Quorn and had perfect weather. Angorichina station was a great spot (don't confuse it with Angorichina Tourist village) and has a good 4WD track. This year we've booked the shearers quarters at Glenlyle near Hawker with a mates family as he wants to do Skytrek.
I'm a big fan of camping at Arkapena station, just across the road from rawnsley park. It's nice and central and has hot showers if you light the wood fired boiler and plenty of fire wood provided. The nearby tourist drive (moriana or something like that) has quite a few camp sites that looked OK too.

Is there a scenic lookout at or near Arkapena??
If so- would you have a GPS location?? or a verbal 'mud map'..
Cheers

There is a scenic lookout a couple of K's past Arkapena on the road to Martins Wells.
It's called Pugilist Hill. It's best in the morning because the sun is behind you amnd shining on the Pound.
If you do the Akapena scenic route (their own 4WD track), you finish up on the top of Mt Prellina, and that's afantastic view too.

Many thanks Dave B- ya done good...

We normally get into Wilpena from the North (via Willow Springs)..
For a change we'll be getting there from the South this year via Arkapena, and it was suggested to seek out that lookout..
'Ave a good one..

David

Great time of the year, First trip fine weather, second trip (last year) cut short due to heatwave.

Wouldn't have missed it or the world, definitely going back.

There is the occasional period of hot weather (had one 40 degree day in Blinman a few years back) but that is unusual and short lasting. Overall, it's one of the best times to be in the Flinders especially after a bit of rain.

Hopes this helps a little.

Pretty unanswerable. The weather at that time can be quite unpredictable. Have had it cold and wet and pretty hot (high thirties) in October. Best idea is to just go for it and if you hit one of the extremes rather than the average have plan B ready.

As you said Steve , you never know?. we have been many times over the years and once we had snow at Wilpena pound ( in the camp ground ) in November, it never seems as hot in the hills as out of them,
Go for it . Cheers Des.
