We are also heading there in March. Be prepared for 4 seasons. Not sure of any official stats. Cheers. Chris.

March is the best time to be their. Depends on atitude, and whether you are camped in a frost gully, lol normally days mid 20s, nights single figs. But as others have said be prepared for 4 seasons and you will have a great trip.

We are going up there for the weekend in late Feb. Not sure what to expect, but I'll let you know when we get back, if it is not too late for you.
Cheers,
Craig

The Alpine Autumn is traditionally beautiful, however............... If I had to pick a time to visit the Vic. high country, it would have to be March. Just go and enjoy it.

Go up there and enjoy it, but be prepared for anything and also to modify your plans at the last minute if need be.
You can get snow at any time in the High Country.
Cheers,
Mark

>pleasant during the day, cool at night!
Probably.
My advice is to prepare for everything from +35C to -5C - the High Country makes its own weather - I've been up there in Jan in 2C with serious hail - snow in December is not unknown.
Take good sleeping bags (-5C $100+ each) and/or a number of extra blankets - will you be taking
young children?
Chances are it will be beautiful weather but you _must_ prepare in case it isn't. Take hats too - strong UV up there. Where are you heading?

You'll have a great time :) But do ensure you take enough bedding especially for the children. Little ones cannot regulate their body temperatures very
well and will suffer much more than adults.
Ensure you have enough food (baby food?) in case you are stuck for a few days and keep in mind there isn't much (any?) water on the higher portions of hills.
I assume your comms are just UHF CB? A cheap hand-held CB is worth having in addition to the vehicle units - in the event of emergency you can climb to a high point and get good range from one.
Enjoy :)

Molzy the weather around the High Country can be varied & unpredictable in March. As a guide Mt Buller last year had temps from 0 to 17 with 14 days that had some rain (1mm to 150mm). In the foothills temps varied from around 10 to 26 with 7 days that rained. There were possibly 2 days last March when it snowed on the peaks but it would have been unlikely to have settled on the ground for long.
The last few months have seen some heavy storms roll through so if that was to continue be prepared for some deep river crossings & fallen trees.
March is a great time to tour the area & at least the sicada's will be gone by then.
Cheers Craig.............

Yea I like 1 or 2 sicada's as
well but when there are 20,000 bleep all over your
camp like the last couple of months the novelty soon wears off ;-)
Cheers Craig............
