Had a look at Waeco, theres a REASON they are cheaper.
The one we looked at, plastic everything, plastic lock.. The finance minister opened the lid on the one at Rays, and it BROKE... Yes, the salesman was giving us the world history on why they are better than Engels, and that happend! We know the lids are meant come off, but the crap lock system broke. The bloke couldn't believe it either, he quickly removed it to out the back realising he had lost a sale!!!
No thanks! Thats enough for me to spend a few $ more.
YMMV.

Every once and a while Rays Outdoors here in Vic have member sales not the normal 22% off sales, which include the bag for free!!! And if you are a member you get your 6.5% off the fridge to boot. Just as we did in March: 40 litre Engel and bag for $1102 total. Not bad eh or perhaps overly generous staff.

The plastic catches just clip back onto the Waecos.... My brother's got an old 3 way Finch [wants about $150 I think].
I'll probably be taking a little plug in cooler up north in a few weeks. We usually don't bother too much about keeping things cool. Cans, dry stuff and the like are okay when we are away from civilization, and then civilization is pretty close nowadays....
Just got a booking from
Winton [
Forbes,
Bathurst, Goondawindi and Moonie too] so they're on the touring itinerary in June.

Are you unwell Truckster? Not like you to give good tips on engel!!!!
or have I got my wires crossed (confusing you with some one else)?
PPPs Engel tipp over
easter 10 days i ran
mine on -10'c and didn't freeze the beer or lettuce. You put all the frozen in the bottom and buy a 2nd green matt and put on the frozen stuff, then you add the referator stuff.
Yes I do have a thermoitor (engel) that recordes min/max temp,
-5to-10 was average and no frozen beer/lettuce. Ps it was 38.6'c
easter sunday so the cold beer went down
well.Around Oz 06/2004

Quality?
As I said, opened the door and it broke (No not came off, physically broke) on the Waeco at Rays.
Would be happy with that in the bush...
The Engel is sitting in the living room with the travel bag on it, and getting cold
