hi sylvia......last July we towed our full size Bushracker caravan across the Plenty and had absolutely no problems....nice stay with good amenities at Tobermory Station. Naturally there were some mild corrugations, but the road is often graded, and occasional bulldust holes. It is generally quite wide. no good if it rains though! Gem Tree also has great caravan sires and facilities, and you can choose several off road spots.....one in particular which we liked was
well back from the road by the dry riverbed and its stunning big gum trees........The Marshall River near Jervois.......all the best - enjoy! Henners.

Hi Henners - Are you members of the Bushtracker Owners Group
forum? They are starting a database of Bushtracker suitable campsites - sounds like you will have some good ones which would be of value to the other members.

HENNERS replied to the question
Well, Hello Mother Hen ! A bit of a side - line here....but nice of you to respond, thanks. We are not members of BOG but have had a wonderful time with our Bushtracker over 4 years. If you could indicate your contact details, perhaps we could continue discussions further? Henners

Sylvia the
plenty Highway would have similar track conditions to the worst of the Walkers Crossing/
Birdsville track, just a bit longer. In some
places it is 100kph+, in other spots there's hidden bull dust holes & long sections of corrugations down to 20. It may shake the van around a bit & let in a little dust but taken quietly should be OK. Decent H/D tyres would be recommended for the rocks & a rear window protector for a station wagon. Driven too fast many pop tops fall apart at the seams on roads like this.
Closer to departure you will need to
check current road conditions to ensure none of the many creeks are flowing too deep.
Cheers Craig.............

Just take it wasy and carry spare tyres, as it has a
well deserved reputation for stuffing them. Take a couple of days at least, I can recommend Tobermary Station also as a nice spot to
camp.
They were doing some roadworks from
Boulia to the border with some interesting detours last year. If it rains the road is often impassable around the border area.
Watch out for wandering wildlife if travelling within 150K of Alice at night, there can be lots around.

Sylvia,
I have just two suggestions, avoid the Plenty after wet weather until it is graded and make a stop at Gem Tree.

Crossed that way in October last year. I towed an aussie swag behind the prado a mate towed his jayco poptop behind his prado. All went
well - however expect extensive corrugations and lots of bulldust holes. You need to go slow as the bulldust holes cannot be seen until your on top of them.
The mate got lots of dust in the jayco - we taped up the jayco several times a day, but it still got in. Good camping on the georgina and we found a gret spot on the
plenty river, follow the track left before you cross the river,
cheers,
Mark
