The wife and I are heading up to the Bundaberg area for a bit of a look around in a few weeks and was looking for a bit of information about the areas north of Bundaberg, is there any beach camping permitted at either Norval park beach or the NP on the south side of Baffle Creek?

Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris,
Not sure about south side of Baffle Creek, but at Norval Park you can camp back off the first sand dune both north & south of the entrance area. You just need to do a bit of a reccee once you get there to find a decent spot. Either tent or with a camper trailer is ok. Often you will find a caravan/s or motorhome at the end of the road & from memory there might be toilets there.

just crusin & smelling the flowers

1. At Halls Creek (Is he really lost?)
2. East of Cameron Cnr

Thanks for that John, I thought I had read somewhere that camping was not allowed there but obviously not so we will check it out.

Chris and Debbie, I was recently doing some research on the Baffle Creek area and here is some advice I got (on another forum)

At Yandaran turn off, you can go Left at the other side of the railway crossing instead of right and go down to a nice place to camp called norvall
has thunder box water tank(best to bring own).
From there u can go on a low tide all the way up north to Littabella Creek, it was (last time i was there 6months ago), fairly easy to put your boat in at the beach, then head in for some good fishing in littabella creek (its pretty hidden, and only farmers have access to the creek system, council is trying to put a ramp in but locals don't like the idea. Apparently good for prawns, but im not so good at the net so i wouldn't know myself.

A second response after I asked about a comparison with Baffle:

for bang for time, baffle creek.
its a pretty huge place.
you got a good chance for a lot of fish species, including the odd barra in the uppers, as well as crabbing.

Norval is great, you have a few options , one which is up the top of the hill when u first go in, which anyone can access, but with the 4wd, you can go down the hill, and camp directly behind the dunes, If the Sand is good, and hasnt been much wash away, you can even go all the way down to littabella creek mouth and camp aswell if the sand is high enough. Apart from that u can 4wd from norval, all the way down along tracks behind the beach towards Miara. so you can pick a nice secluded spot, then also access kolan river,
Here is a pic.
http://www.burnett.qld.gov.au/admin/uploads/Shire_MIARA.jpg
tho those roads look like they goto littabella they don't, but you can basically drive from littabella to the marked caravan park, along 4wd tracks behind the beach.

yes to sandflies @ both places be very prepared at baffle creek its sand fly kingdom.
You will probably have more fun at baffle creek, but finding a decent place to camp can be somewhat of a challenge.

This is all just cut and paste. I haven't been there myself. We are heading off tomorrow and dropping into Baffle Creek (North side) on our way to the Gulf.

Hi Norm,

I saw you parked in the carpark beside the riverside parkland area in the middle of Bundaberg this morning.
The minute I saw your rig I recognised it from your rig pic. I normally wouldn't drive past without saying g'day but I had clients in the car and it would not have been appropriate.
Have fun on your trip north and stay safe mate.

Cheers,
Brett

G'day Chris. Norval is good, but can get very busy. Still, I'd be surprised if you couldn't find a nice spot under the she-oaks.
Can also camp on S. side of Kolan . Go Bundy to Moore Park 'till you see the "Beach Access" sign.
We've had a fair belt of erosion lately, and some tracks 'behind the dunes' now lead to minor 'sea cliffs'. Just watch 'em. [Norval is fine, though].

Sorry to hijack your thread - frustration clouded manners.
Regards, Jeff.

ps. I'd love to fish Littabella - it looks deadly, if the weather lets you boat in. jh.

Jeff,
I will second the Sth side of the Kolan. Magic spot to get away and a short drive from home if need be (I live in Moore Park ).
We are hoping to get up the beach for Easter

Cheers

Hi again ads-gu,

We camped up at there for a week at Christmas time (cold and wet and women bailed home for a few days and then came back). While we were there the QPWS ranger dropped in to say hi.
He said that they were going to start regulating the camping up there and would be daily checks and camping fees charged starting on 1st January, 2007.
There was a lot of rubbish up there so about a week after New Years we went back up with my box trailer and spent a day picking up rubbish. Nobody who was camping up there at the time had seen a ranger.
Do you know if they have implemented a camping fee system yet?

Cheers,
Brett

Hi Brett,
Mate, I havn't been up there for a while actually. Although I had heard that they were thinking of implementing that scheme, I don't know of anyone personally that has had to pay as yet. Guess it is a sign of the progress that MP is goiong through.

Thanks for all the reply's so far. Looks like we will go for a few days south of Kolan river (been to Moore Park a few times mate has block of land opposite the park along the beach there). and a few days at Norval park. Doubt if we will have time for Baffle Creek as well, hopefully we will get there in a couple of months.

Hi Chris,

Just a reminder to plan your trip up the beach from Moore Park around the tides. A couple of km's up the beach from the access track there is a patch of dead trees for about 500 metres that can be very tricky to get around on anything up to 4 hrs either side of high tide.
The problem is the swamp behind the beach at that point and just below the sand in spots there can be a bottomless black mud. If you let the water from the tide soak out of the beach properly you can drive a little lower down the beach where it will be much firmer.
Once you get to with a km or 2 from the point you will see a track that heads up off the beach. This will take you through to the western side of the point where the best camping is right on the waters edge of the Kolann River.

Cheers,
Brett
