I've been in and out on 3 different tracks over the years. There is no way I'd consider going in there in a vehicle without a low range.....but then again I am a bit conservative.
The tracks I've been on are Merricumbene, the western trig road (can't remember it's name) and the one that comes in from Moruya (also name unknown).
RAV may be able to do it if track is in ideal condition.

The easiest way in is from Moruya. I havent got a map here to describe the trip, but going west from Moruya, you turn left before crossing the river then just follow your nose? This is the easiest way in - a 2WD could do it.
Otherwise follow the trex notes on this site. There is also a route from the river east of Aruluen, west of Moruya.

Colin - have you had your Forester in there?? Interested because we took a Kluger in there, and he got as far as the first big whoops on the Moruya entry - and got stuck on the top - rampover angle not quite up to it.
We have had a XTrail in there before, but they are that bit shorter..

Hi there Scoobs,...personally I wouldnt try it myself alone without low range in a vehicle. Last time we were in there we saw a group of 3 cars and one was a 2wd Navara ute, he made it in and out via the Moruya end BUT, he had his mates for backup. It all boils down to how much risk you are willing to take I suppose.

Have a look at PART3 of this trip report.
Trip Report
In the dry you would probably do it OK on the easier tracks if you are experienced but unlikely if its damp. I'd go along with someone in a vehicle with low range.

I don't know how capable the Rav4 is, but:
I've been in and out the following three ways.
You should get in coming in front the Captains Flat direction, but you probably won't get out that way. Too steep
You probably won't get in through Dry
Creek camp area coming from Araluen. Too steep.
You should get in coming from the east, from Moruya, it is relatively steep, but going in it is mainly down
hill, but if the "woopties" are a problem going in, but they would definitely be a bigger concern coming out.
You should only go in when it is dry, at the moment though that's not a problem.
Cheers
Shawn

Well I dont know the capabilities of a Rav4 either - but I do know where a Subaru will go.
I have been into
Bendethera several times in a 'L' series Subaru and a Forester. I have taken all 3 ways in and had no trouble, it has been dry on all the trips although it did rain on the way out via
Dampier trig once. It is a great place to visit.
By the way im off to the Constance Hedland via
Jigalong, CSR and Calverts Ra. in May. I have done the trip to the Calvert Ra twice before, all in Subarus !!
I will probably come
home via the Anne Beadell 'Hwy' from
Laverton to
Coober Pedy.
Cheers
Colin
