Stuff the hummers, Though you probably wouldn'y go shopping in it , maybe you could, I would.

Hii Doug

Goverment funds ,look what you can get!, Fair dinkum 4wd though . Bloody electronics in their to control emissions, could be a issue maybe.? Followed a fleet of army vechicles up the freeway the other day, old landys 4bd1s , old macks, black smoke every where :)), how do they get away with that now?.

Cheers Axle.

Wonder how they would go dressed up a bit ....not too much though , take off or replace the armour panels , [ though could be handy when driving around Coburg in Melb' or Cabramatta nsw ] I'm not one that needs really dressed up stuff like the Hummer I posted about , yes they are a good 4x4 but i just love the look of the Bushy, If you took a pretty Hummer into the outback and pointed it at some blacksoil mud it would whimper , "Don't get me dirty " , but the Bushy would charge right on in,

Yeah, a real cool scrubber.

You would have a complete selfcontained motel on wheels with off track capability.

Funny thing tho.....the winch is optional.

Wouldn't like to bog that thing in a ponded puddle somewhere out in the treeless flat country. You would need a sky hook to get it moving again...lol

Well somewhere it has in the specs about lifting points for Chinooks. I reackon if they made a civvie version as they did with Hummer it would be a huge hit ....for those who could afford it, Tour operators, mobile Home , though there are a few Unimogs done like that already , I just love the aggressive look , also looks like rear entry only, no doors,Did you watch the little MPEG movie and read the PDF manuals.

Doug

My computer has an issue with playing video files and anly gives me short frames...and slowly. So I gave up. Didn't read the specs either.

I have enough trouble keep my"car"(lol) on the road. Having a behemoth like that would be a nightmare.

You won't know yourself with ADSL, there are quite a few plans and speeds , would be good to have the really fast 1.5mb or 8mb but the cost is higher thus would have to drop down to a lower download limit, I am with Westnet on a 256kb plan at $34.95 for 5GB/7GB bundled with the phone , I have not exceeded my limit at that but have gone close , about 4.2 gb , handy if you want to spend a lot of time on Google Earth, what I might do is upgrade to 512k plan at $44.95 / 5GB/7GB so it will be twice as fast at only $10 more each month , I find when trying to watch those mpeg clips about 4x4s and news clips it jumps and stops until it fully downloaded then it will play through non stop , I see also there is a 516k plan for $34.95 for 1gb but i think there would be times I would exceed the limit , anyhow you will enjoy it when it comes I'm sure,

Are these the same brand as those fire vehicles i saw in Mt Gambier? If not, who makes them? What are they like to drive?

They had a snippet on TV about them here. I beleive the S.A. CFS has bought a few of them.

They ran them through their paces and the Fiance had to lift my tongue off the coffee table.

A firey and a 4wder got together on this project. Every cranny is packed with something needed for the job.

They even though about it getting bogged in in the middle of a firestorm. It has outer high volume misters. Providing everyone makes it back and into the vehicle, they have a good chance.

VERY impressed

Hi Folks,

Have never personally driven one so all my info has been heresay through the military old boy net.

They took 2 over to Timor for a test run in the wet season and that was a bit of a mistake. Ended up being restricted to bitumen and well formed tracks only. Mind you some of those tracks were so slippery even the Land Rover 110 struggled. Snapped front axles were the order of the day.

They were designed as a battle taxi ( delivering troops close to the fight in good condition) not as a fighting vehicle. However in places like Afghanistan and Iraq where they are currently deployed they seem to be doing reasonably well. The aussies down south in Afghanistan have been working with the Dutch who were obviously impressed with the vehicle and went out and bought 25 straight off the showroom floor.

I don't know exact details on their armour but I doubt they would stand up to much more than small arms fire. Wouldn't like to be a passenger if hit by an RPG round or a IED (improvised explosive device - roadside or car bomb).

The Aussie SAS apparently has a few over here but they are rumoured to have an upgraded remote control weapon station on top. This would enable them to target and fire the weapon without opening a hatch and exposing troops to direct fire.

Whether they are the bees knees remains to be seen but they are certainly a dramatic improvement on what we used to use. In Somalia and Timor it was soft skinned Land Rovers - no armour or mine protection. We used to put sandbags on the floor of the rovers for some mine protection but this proved too much for the suspension.

The Bushies appeal is the comfort and safety provided to the troops and its ability to carry enough kit, ammo and most importantly water for extended operations. Imagine the weight of just the water. Enough to supply 9 men for a week or more in hot tropical conditions .... thats about 1000kg all by itself.

I believe (not certain) that they are based on a Unimog chassis.

Home in 3 days ... no more suicide bombers in Taxi's to contend with.

Cheers ... Taz
