Hi All
We are new to this
forum, and are going from
Birdsville to
Innamincka in mid Aug.
Any comments in relation to
Walkers Crossing vs
Cordillo Downs would be appreciated.

Ruth from the
Birdsville Caravan Park and a member of ExplorOz told me the same thing and it's shorter.
I cannot comment on the
Cordillo Downs route but thoroughly enjoyed the diverse and changing landscapes along the
Walkers Crossing track.
This is the route of choice by the locals commuting between the two locations.

We enjoyed the
Cordillo Downs road but we wanted to see the
shearing shed so that made it worthwhile. It was slow going. I guess you just have to decide whether you want to see
Cordillo Downs or not..if not .. go
Walkers Crossing as from all other reports it seems to be the preferred track.
Have a good trip.

Hi,
Did the
Cordillo Downs track in 2004 from
Innamincka to
Birdsville, we spent 2 days doing the trip as it was slow going in some
places but we did enjoy it.
We're heading out that way again next week and would like to try the
Walkers Crossing track, is the trip from
Innamincka to
Birdsville comfortably doable in a day on the
Walkers Crossing track?

An amazing thing happened about three weeks ago - the
Cordillo Downs Road was graded from
Innamincka up to the road from
Windorah - how about that! Makes it a very enjoyable drive. (
Walkers Crossing is shorter, different country) and then there is the Arrabury Road (Queensland side) - going up from
the Dig Tree - very rough at the present time.

I've done both, one or twice but enjoyed the CDT more - "the reason is the season" probably ! The CDT was lush (in outback terms) following rains when we were there - that, contrasted with the striking red sand dunes makes for wonderful
views. Our last drive a few years back on the WCT was somewhat dull - dry as an arab's sandal and desolate. The above can be fully reversed by weather in 6 months up there, as others have mentioned ! Have a great drive.
