Hi, I have asked this before a while ago, but maybe there is some fresh replys there as there was a few different ideas last time.
We where fishing and camping in Bathurst Bay, Bathurst Heads area last June and we used to go for water for our shower from an abandoned group of buildings on a Hill overlooking Bathhurst Bay and would love to find out the history of them.
They seem to resemble the making of a resort or something similar. They are very derelict now which is a shame as they are on a such a beatifull site.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks
Murray

mozeve,
The abandoned site is rumoured to be the remains of a failed tourist resort in the Jo era.
I first saw the site in a documentary/adventure made quite a few years ago and was about this bloke in a cat speedy and a small 4by (haflinger).
Maybe if you contacted the rangers at either Lakefield (07) 4060 3271 or Cooktown (07) 4069 5777.
Not much help but hopefully some. Post any results.
Cheers,
Bros.

Thanks for that Bros 1
That was one of the stories I heard while up there and someone else said it was a mining camp for when they where sopposedly mining on one of the islands near by. All so heard it was built as a fishing camp. I asked the Ranger at Lakefeilds on our way out and but he was not to sure either. Thanks any rate Bro 1. Its no big deal but I am more nosey than anything.
Cheers Murray

When you find out, please post. Such snippets often provide great yarns.
