Anyone know where you can buy cylinders of CORK about 60 mm in diameter and 200 mm long - plastic (as in wine tops not suitable) - old fellow used to make his own float bob and so far has been unable to buy cork. Thanks.

Cork in that size would be expensive I would think.
Perhaps consideration could be given to polystyrene foam (Styrofoam is one trademark) as used in anything from cheap eskys to model making to (would you believe) fishing floats.
I know it is used at work for pattern making in the automotive industry.
If this is a suitable alternative to cork I can make further inquiries as to a retail outlet Ruth.

He didn't want to go down that road - but definitely a consideration. Good one.

Hi Happy Trails - probably not much. This water is the result of Cyclone Hervey which dumped 8 inches on
Winton about 8 - 9 weeks ago. Didn't make much impression on
Birdsville really - just more fish!!!! Will be keeping an eye on the levels for you intrepid tavellers. Going to create havoc with The Great Australian Cattle Drive leaving
Birdsville on 2 May though.

Hi - there is a place in
Melbourne (Dandenong - don't know their number but directory should get them) called AMORIM CORK - they make cork products as the name suggests - give them a go.

Thanks everyone for your prompt assistance - stuck indoors because of a duststorm right now - has come with the change to southerly wind - I think those wet things were drops of rain! Hope the southerly brings a cool change as
well. Will keep you all posted on the cork issue.

G'day Ruth,
Dust storm eh? Haven't had one for a while, but plenty of whirly-winds about.
I recently got some floats from Whitworths mail order, for use on electric cables, to Solar Pumps. Got a few red plastic ones, and some slightly bigger(100 mm dia.) white foam ones. Not too dear, around couple of bucks each, from memory(not that it's reliable!!!).
Whitworth's website is: whitworths.com.au
Service is prompt, and prices okay.
River has stopped running here, for some weeks now. Feed is still good, so cattle are delighted.
hooroo...
Bob.

Thanks for that Bob, will have a go tomorrow for him. He's determined to make some (like in the old days!!). Good to hear your cattle have some feed - very ordinary down here - saw six decks go out today, more last week. Nothing much south of here either - so Cattle Drive trying to source
hay to feed on the road. Pity they can't eat gibber. Maybe the rain drops will join up - nah, not likely. Think it might have blown away now - just checked, still a few spots of rain - wonder how the panic levels are out there, hehehehe! C ya.

It actually ran (dribbled is more accurate) down the gutters here in the
Hill yesterday but it was all gone by lunchtime. Just enough to stop the guys tennis.
The caravan parks here are reasonably full too They are heading your way Ruth.
