I emailed them regarding the car park height restriction issue. This is the reply I received today. (I might add that I still have not received a reply from Coles regarding my email sent at the start of the week, I only sent the email to Kmart yesterday).

Hi Jeff
Thank you for taking the time to contact us through our Internet site.

With regard to the car park height restriction at Katoomba, there has always
been a height restriction of 1.8 metres for entry to the underground car
park and height restriction signs have always been in place. However, it
appears that unauthorized lifting of the height to allow higher vehicles to
enter the car park has occurred this has resulted in numerous vehicles being
severely damaged because they are not familiar with the car park and height.
Therefore, new brightly coloured warning signs have been installed at car
park entries, store entry, and at the pedestrian ramp from the lower car
park.
The height limit bar will be re installed at the correct height on the 1st
of April so that it cannot be raised without considerable work.

Regards
Amberlee

Oh, but I won't to say that I don't think that contacting them regarding these issues was a waste of time, even though it seems that there really was not that bigger issue involved. Emails like mine and the emails I would assume that have come from many others about this have let KMart head office know that we as 4wd owners will not be walked all over and that we will kick up a stick if they don't take us into consideration when building new stores/carparks or changing any rules or regulations in the future.

Thanks for speaking up on our behalf Jeff, and anyone else who sent emails, well done.

We can only hope that it may push them into doing something against those SMH dimwits for trying to use their ( Coles @ Kmart's ) good name to gain media coverage for their own personal vendetta against the 4wd community.

Good work, at least Kmarts explanation is common sense and well worded, worth the effort.

The real issue was the drongo that was reported on in the SMH for taking the height restriction as a personal vendetta agains 4WD in society today!!

He should be the taget and I hope Kmart has taken this issue up with the SMH after our emails etc alerted them to his descrimination.!!

Onya Jeff!!

Matt.

Good one Jeff M, I too thought the original story was aimed 4X4s but Kmart’s reply is as Matt Mu put it, common sense.

I was in a car park at a travel lodge complex south of Sydney and while manouvering to park my 4X4, backed into a pipe that had less than 2m clearance yet the sign at the entrance to the car park stated 2.1m.

It’s good to see that Kmart is actually doing the right thing.
Again Good one Kmart and good Jeff M, Cheers

Yes it's one thing to not be allowed in there, but it's even WORSE to get STUCK!
I drove through the Whitfords city undercover parking with my roof rack on. I drove up and very slowly drove under the sign hanging from chains with my head stuck out the window and I went under with a couple of cms clearence.

No worries I though.

Drove around looked for a park and couldn't find one then drove out the other side. On the way out there was an ALMIGHTY BANG and I took out the height sign which had the SAME height written on it as the one of the other side! WTF???

I also got stuck at Morley Gallaria carpark in the work van on a busy thursday night. I went under the sign with roof rack and ladders on board, didn't touch - no worries. Then I drove up the ramp to go onto the roof carpark and BANG! I was jammed between the the concrete ramp above and the roof rack, smokin the wheels up and everything trying to get out. Then I had to try and turn around with 5 million cars backed up behind me on a friggin narrow ramp, bloody embarassing in a sign written van!!
