100 Series
Hi I just watched the 4 x 4 Australia Gulf Extreme DVD and they give the Mickey Thomson tyres a pretty good rap.
Does anyone on this site have a set of Mickey Thompson Tyres, particularly the all terrain models?
Are they any good or are they only talking them up for sponsorship purposes?
Any feed back/info good or bad welcomed.
I am looking at fitting a set to a 100 series standard diesel cruiser
Thanks 100 series

My neighbour has recently put the Radial Claws (I think) on his 80 series, he'd always had BFG A/Ts previously. He's rapt in them so far, about 15000kms of outback gravel and some off road tracks.

Pat
Have the mtx and have had two tyres unrepairable, one was a manufacturing fault (bubble on side wall) and one staked side wall on rocks.
Have done approx 45000km and original tyres have about 25% tread left.
Have found them to be good for touring and sand but as this is my wifes daily driver I cant go too much more aggresive 8(
Wouldn't mind trying a set of MTRs next but will have to convince SWMBO that "yes dear they realy are a new type of road tyre!!!!!!"
Regards

Any claws suffer from lateral grip.
Bar tread like Claws, boggers etc, have nothing to stop them sliding sideways the tread goes from center out to side and nothing in the middle.
So if they were Radial claws, or Bias Claws, have a look around, much better tires out there for general purpose...

I was looking more at the Baja radial MTX or the radial FC-II(this one has dick cepek on the side wall) and both are all terrains, similar to BFG A/T.
I'm not interesred in any of that full on mud gripper stuff

I have MT Dick Cepek's. They are not a muddy so don't expect muddy performance. I've done 20,000ks and am reasonably happy. On our outback trip (see web site) we did 7,000k's mostly off black top. They got pretty chopped up. As far a grip is concerned I reckon they are very good. On black top, the high country, outback & desert I've had no problems at all - they are a very good A/T. And although noiser than a road tyre are not too noisy SWMBC drives our LC100 more than I do and doesn't complain.
So long as you are after an A/T style tyre I'd be happy to reccomend them. But don't call me if you get stuck in the mud.

PS: I did have one knob almost come off and I am currently in discussions with them about it. No outcome yet.

Hi,
Got a set of the MTX on my 100 series and have done Oodnatta - across Simpson -
Birdsville with another vehicle with me having the Dick Cepek tyres on and both had no troubles at all.
Have done 30,000 so far and for a non mud terrain tyre also found them to be good in the mud I would recommend them to others and have done so and all are still happy to date.
For someone with heaps of tyre knowledge call Darren 08 8374 2612 in
Adelaide and fire away all the questions you can think of.

Ive got the Dick Cepeks on our prado (265X75X16) and am much happier with them than the BFG A/Ts I had previosly on another vehicle. We just spent some time on Moreton and Fraser islands and they handled the sand perfectly, we just spent the last weekend in the high country where there was PLENTY mud and snow(yes snow) and again they were perfect.
They are much louder than the bfgs on the black top,but off road they work beautifully, they seem to clean out
well in mud also as we always seem to be moving forward each time, sometimes we dont have the centre diff lock engaged and they still got heaps of go.
Our Vehicle has had no major mods just the tyres and that magnificent fridge in the back.
Id say go getem
