I did a search and I couldn't find an answer so if it's been discussed I do apologise.
Is the Peninsula Developmental Road from Lakeland through Laura, Musgrave, Coen through to Weipa accessible in a car (BA Falcon sedan) with box trailer hauling bikes. I know it's approx. 560k's, just curious how long would that drive take? Thanks, Jon

Gday Jon,yeah I recon you could do it(going on condition of road last year). They were sealing parts around Laura then ,dont know how far the've gone with that.Time would depend on road conditions, weather etc.

Big jon

Its going to be a slow trip.

The run from archer river to wepia should be pretty good.

I would allow 10 or so hours.

Or even longer .

All the best
Eric

Whilst I respect Eric's knowledge because he must have done the trip a dozen times I would suggest the box trailer loaded with bikes is going to have a hard time unless it is an off road HD one. If it is a weekend warrior trailer that generally sits out the back of the house in all weather and is partly rusted through forget it. If its a good one take spare springs with you, a spare wheel and put new tyres on all around and take some wheel bearing with you. The Peninsular Road can be driven at 110 kph in places but dips can catch you out, (hence Eric says take your time), rocks can easily damage tyres and its dusty. As you come into Wiepa the dust gets very fine and slippery. We were driving at 90kph when the dust suddenly threw my car from one side of the road to the other and down the ditch before I could get control of it again. The road was 6 lanes wide and I can tell you if I could have found some spare undies I would have changed. Another thing. Protect the bikes from damage from flying rocks and protect the back of the car from rocks thrown forward by the trailer.
Have fun

Takes about 9hrs in a 4WD with the normal breaks (no fuel stops). You will need to travel a fair bit slower in a car and watch for the overtaking terrorists.

The dips between Musgrave and Coen need care to get through.

Jon

There's a hell of a lot of cars in Weipa and I bet they didn't all arrive by sea.

As stated above, prepare and take your time .... it'll be a pincha.

Cheers
