Is there anyone crossing the Simpson on the French line 14th to 16th April going
Birdsville to Mount Dare that we could tag with? We are a family of 4 doing a solo trip to Uluru form Victoria, very experienced 4wder, have crossed the Frenchline as two vehicles back in 2007 going west to east no problems at all.
We are a 2dr Rubicon Jeep towing a small lightweight RAAF Track Trailer, but nothing on the roof for this next trip!

Hi nikjt,
Do you have a “
plan B”, with regard to your intended travel dates? There are times when they do not open
the desert until we’ll into May. Happened to us on our first crossing several years ago.
As an aside, I have no doubt your trailer is strong enough to survive the trip without any difficulty. I have owned an early TrackTrailer built by Guiding Star Trailers. It was almost “indestructible”. It was used on the
CSR and Gunbarrel Higways by a mate of
mine. It is a little longer that yours.

Yeh we very much have a
plan B, which is 50/50 with Plan A anyway, rather than head north from Merty Merty to
Birdsville via
Walkers Crossing, head south and to Dalhousi Springs via
Oodnadatta, also a fantastic track which I have done before :)
Loving the original Track Trailer, they are pretty much the only trailer type I would tow off road or on any tracks due to the superior
suspension,
mine has been many surprising
places, including Blue Raag, Billy Goats and other equally difficult tracks in the
Vic High Country, lightweight is the key!

Take care with
Walkers Crossing. It has been closed for a year or more (???) but is scheduled to re-open 15/3/25. Here's hoping.....
Special Notices and PARs

Peter

If it is open and if you are forced further south, call into
Level Post Bay on
Muloorina Station.
