Strezlecki track

I’d never picked that spelling up! It is amazing how we don’t necessarily read or see what’s actually written.

It would seem that in Polish it is pronounced with a silent Z. So it is "Strell-lecki". Not too hard?
Just damn hard to remember how to spell it in English.

Yes Allan, a bit like Kosciusko, most people pronounce it “Koziosko”.

Have they changed it like they did Fraser Island?
And like Constantinople….. Now they spell it 'Istanbul'.
I just can't keep up.!!!

"The mountain was named by the Polish explorer Pawel (Paul) Edmund Strzelecki in 1840, in honour of Polish-Lithuanian and American freedom fighter General Tadeusz Kosciuszko, because of its perceived resemblance to the Kosciuszko Mound in Kraków, Poland."

And here it is when we visited in 2015.

You can read a sentence if all the letters in the words are jumbled except the first and last letter of each word. It's amazing. I have a mate from Eastern Europe and his pronunciation for Kosciuszko is quite different to ours.

Yes, I know Alby. I sometimes read 'them' and go "Hang on, was there more than one bloke ?" and go back and read it again. It could be better if they just dropped the gender qualifiers (of she & her) and made "he & him" inclusive of gender. It would also solve the predicament of wondering about the roles in same-gender marriages. (maybe a lol here for safety)

From my trip down the track mid '23 I thought it was further progressed than that.
Also, I did a web search and believe that press release you linked was dated December 2022.
So maybe the work has extended more than the 164km nominated.
Is anyone who has travelled on it recently able to comment?

The site I liked to is the official SA DIT site. It indicates 190 km complete and a further 28 km under construction. I did note that the site is undated so I contacted DIT who advised that the site is updated as the road construction is completed.
I emailed DIT to get an update because an Outback Magazine article indicated that the whole length would be sealed by end of 23 (obviously incorrect). A bloke from DIT rang me back with the correct info.

Will it continue to be called a track once sealed and there is a Macdonald’s and Bunnings erected on it ?

Think you are geographically lost…sorry.

That’s at Mungerannie on the Birdsville Track, a very long way from the Strzelecki Track which starts at Lyndhurst.

I thought "slightly to the left of Strzelecki, " was an adequate description. :)

Having been up and down both tracks, Strzelecki and Birdsville, I'm not lost, I know where the tracks starts at Lyndhurst and i did say slightly to the left of the Strzelecki. Slightly is a relative term. Thought i would have been picked up on my spelling of Mungarennie.

The track is never closed for roadworks. You may have a small delay but they usually just have speed restrictions. Parts of the track are good others are very ordinary with lots of ruts and bulldust. Majority of traffic is roadtrains
