I thought the "Memories" post would make an interesting "Where is it?" thread, but not with stolen pics. :)
Here is one to start..... correct guesser gets to post the next one.

I'll take a stab at Pimba.

If correct I have no old photos with us of Australia, so someone else will have to have a go.
See 'My Profile' (below) for link to our Aussie travel blog, now in it's 6th year.

Good job Cuppa, Spuds Roadhouse it is.
And unless I am mistaken, "Spud" was still in residence at that time.

Spud was still in residence in 1985 when he helped me out after a collision with a kangaroo.. needing a radiator for a old Falcon I was driving at the time , an interesting old fella that would help you out .
funnily enough spuds sun (TNT) is also known as spud hahah :)))

Just a side story from Spud's Roadhouse......
The vehicle in the first pic by the bousers was a roving mobile library that serviced the stations along the track.
The owner was spruking that the rail to Alice should be moved west into country less affected by flooding, a move that happened, but took another 15 years.

Peter

Barry G is oh so close, I will have to give it too him, actually Steavenson Falls, a waterfall on the Steavenson River, is located 4 kilometres southeast of Marysville, Victoria, Australia. The falls are one of the tallest in Victoria, with five cascades, a total descent of 122 metres, the last having a clear drop of more than 21 metres. You turn for a pic Barry.

Without being disrespectful Barry, don’t you think that your drone photo is ridiculous?

A drone shot of red dirt country can be anywhere in Australia , yet you say it is in South Australia, which means it can be anywhere north of Port Augusta.

You know where it is, but how on earth can others actually know where it is if they themselves have not had a drone in the same place.

Ok here is my punt

If its on the Anne Beadell Highway and in South Australia and actually on the Anne Beadell Highway, well it rules out Dingo Claypan runway, which then only leave one other airstrip that was used by the Department of Defence, being the air strip on Emu Claypan?

Cheers

Well here we go Peter

Most of you would know what one of my best outback highways is to travel.

Many have driven it and will know where this classic sign is located?

Should be easier than a drone photo, as that would really be giving the place away.

Anyone that has travelled the full Anne Beadell Highway has driven past where this sign is located, and it is east of Laverton.

Ah yes.
We saw the well, but not the sign in 2006.

A few km down the road we met a bloke going the other way and stopped for a chat (as you do). He came up from the south 100km or so a couple of times a week to check on Yeo.
Our chat in the middle of the road took 1 1/2 hours.
This was the first vehicle we had seen since leaving Cook (via Voakes Hill Corner) some days earlier.

Coober Pedy it is Bob and Bulls Garage in particular.
There were only about a dozen above ground buildings in Coober Pedy at that time.

Before we got to Coober Pedy the Mini broke an engine mount. The engine dropped a bit until it was supported by the sump guard. The fan was hitting the fan cowl. I held the engine up with a folded notebook between the sump and the sump guard.
When we arrived a Bulls, I asked about getting a new mount and some fan cowl bits. "No problem" I was told, "They will be here on the morning bus from Adelaide."
And so it was. They were in my hands by 9am.
But the boss said he was too busy to fit the bits for me, but it was OK to do it myself and I could borrow any tools I needed and ask for any advise if I needed help.

Within a couple of hours we were ready to roll again. I had not used the radiator cowl bits and they did not charge me for them. "They will be here for the next Mini that needs them."

I have been a staunch customer of Bulls Garage ever since.

Got a pic for us Bob?
Cheers,
Peter
