Looking for some suggestions for a few
places to visit next week (before the long weekend campers arrive).
Want to go exploring as there's lots of
places down south we haven't been too. But lots that we have done too. Haven't been to
Bremer Bay or
Hopetoun so was thinking we'll head in that direction but happy to visit multiple
places. Happy to spend our day driving to sites to hike or MTB or SUP or
snorkel and maybe a few days relaxing under the trees, or near a river/lake etc. Believe there's some newish sites in Collie area we haven't seen but don't know where exactly? Also haven't been to any of the newer lakes (eg. I think there's one in Collie, and one called
Stockton)? Would like to
check them out. Also haven't been to Lake Towerrinning so not sure if that's worth it, or feasible. Would like to revisit Pemberton and Karri Valley area. If you know the area
well and have been recently, what would you recommend please? Will have our offroad camper trailer (Ultimate). Really really prefer as isolated as possible, no people. Haha ;)

Michelle, I day tripped out of Bunbury a few weeks ago around the Collie region and it was crazy with campers. Every conceivable nook and cranny was already booked out ( it was the end of the school holidays). We only drove around a couple of the lakes and the river areas. Enjoy your get away.

Bremer Bay is a fav. Gateway to the Fitzgerald National Park with rugged coastlines at
places like
Point Ann and
Quoin Head, spectacular hills to climb, nearly always some
wildflowers there no matter the season.
The drive through the park to
Hopetoun is nice.
Wish I could get there myself.
Enjoy
Cheers

Hello Michelle, Tozers
bush camp 16kms West of Bremer. Better in the spring though, really good wildflower country.
Our caravan club stayed 2 nights in September 2020. Unpowered sites. $15 per person but it has the best
camp kitchen and ablution.
Our club has also been to Lake Towerrinning last November. A really beautiful spot. We stopped at the park, not everyone likes parks but our
membership is varied.
There is a freebie at
Glen Mervyn dam on the Collie- Mumballup Road. Looks good from the road.
We go that way from
Busselton to Collie for a change when our club has rallies in the Great Southern.
Regards
Rob Jones

Got back to
Perth yesterday after two weeks exploring between Mandurah and Yellingup. The development in that area in the last 10 years is amazing. The best three
places I stayed where Estuary Hideaway,
Martins Tank Lake Campground and believe it or not the Christian Brothers
Campground 11 kilometres west of
Busselton. What was great about this
camp was an easy bike ride to
Busselton and a great beach only 100 metres away. These are not quite in your target area but could be on the way to or from. Have a great trip. Chris

The new
camping area near Collie is the DPAW site Lake Kepwari.
Further south you have a few that might suit, Parry Beach, Cosy Corner East,
Cape Riche, Masons Bay and Starvation Bay. They all appear to be pretty busy at the moment and I doubt you will be on your own.
Fitzgerald National Park sounds like what you are after.
The weather for the coastal sites is for showers and winds that might make it a bit unpleasant.

You would like
Hopetoun area.
That part of Fitzgerald N P has some great walks and amazing flowers all along the rd. Best
campsite is
Hamersley inlet, which is owed by the council not N Ps. Big sites that are separated by trees so you are not on top of your neighbour. N P sites are very small. The inlet didn't have much water in it when we where there , so we didn't launch our canoes which was our main reason for camping there.
Check water levels before you go. Also it's cheaper to
camp there than the N P!
We also loved Cape Richie. Beautiful sheltered bay. Most camps are tight but easy for your setup. 4wdrive tracks to the east get adventurous and overgrown but lead to uninhabited wild beaches. There's a track just before the
camp to the right that goes to the back of the
camp area which we where informed is a " locals secret". Take the first track to the left to get there. If you continue straight on that track you come our at another beach and
the entrance to
Eyre River. Beautiful beach, soft sand. Tracks to the right lead to river and inlet. We canoed all the way up this river, 2ks?, would be great on a SUP, as its very calm. About half way up the river you come to a rocky ledge with a fire drum on it, obvious a locals
fishing spot. HINT, take a walk up the bank there and you will discover a secret
camp! You will have to figure it out how to get there by rd, not too hard but l don't want to say here.
Hope l have excited your curiosity!

More ideas
Boat Harbour. Which is the next
camp east on the coast from Cape Richie. Meet Trevor the rough diamond! He's been the unpayed caretaker for 12yrs.
Free camp but limited sites. Sandy track to sites on
the beach. Track east is very interesting, steep sandy track goes to next beach. Great flat spot to
camp just before beach but l doubt you'd get a trailer in and out without help. Worth a drive though. If you take the track that goes right up the
hill between Trevors
camp and the
beach camp it leads to a fantastic clifftop drive . Spectacular vistas all the way to a "secret"
camp spot on the next beach. Its a reasonably testing 4wdrive track but we did see a camper trailer camped there when we drove in.
Next, Parry's inlet.
As you head off the hwy towards
Boat Harbour about half way in you come to the garbage bin pt. Placed there by local council for campers. Right goes to
Boat Harbour left to Parrys inlet . This starts out as a good graded track but soon develops into a sandy 4wdrive track. Leads to the inlet. An unorthorised
camp but plenty of people know about it. Big inlet to explore on SUPs. Beach driving to the other side where we saw caravans. All that southern coast is beautiful in the right weather. Storms can roll in very quickly, in fact that is what drove us away.
Enjoy your time away.
