Sorry, Batsy, not Bishop Riley's Pulpit. Somewhat east of there.

Thought someone may have recognised the hills?

The gravel pit where ute is parked is about 200M south of GCR, & a km west of the WA/NT border. Able to access the phone tower at Docker River too.

The first one was too easy. While Bob is searching his archives, here's another one.

What is the shiny stuff on the ground and where would you find it? Hopefully the background will eliminate some possibilities.

Well done John. This particular abandoned mine is accessible from the campground that lies beyond the Harts Range racecourse.

The associated community, Atitjere, is welcoming and most accommodating for travellers and will help you with any info you may need to explore the area.

Hi Frank. AgreeAtitjere is welcoming. There are some interesting information signs in the community. Most of Australia’s mica came from the Harts Range. Apparently Aboriginal women were particularly adept at working with mica due to their visual acuity and dexterity.

Central Harts Range

We had a delightful experience at Atitjere.

We went to the store for supplies and water for the van - good plentiful water there, no restrictions on quantity at the time.

Some kids on bikes bailed us up at the store.

Kid 1: "Hey mista, where you from?"

"Sydney"

Kid 2: "That's where the queen lives"

Kid 1: "Nah, she lives in Victoria"!!!

LOL

Then we told them we thought she lived in England, which Kid 1 said with great confidence,
" Yeah, that's in Victoria!" LOL again

We told them we had a grandson about the same age as them.

" What does he do?"

"Well, he goes to school, rides his bike like you and he has a pet lizard"

"A pet lizard?!! Why does he have a pet lizard? We eat um. Want me to get ya one?"

LOL again.

With their big eyes, cheeky grins, they were so gorgeously serious about a lizard feed. It was the highlight of our visit.

An old story about local kids...
In 1967 we were on our way home to Adelaide from Darwin via Uluru in a Mini 850. We came south from Curtin Springs and just after Mulga Park there were a couple of 8 year olds waving us down on the side of the road. We stopped and Margaret opened the window and the kids quickly started animatedly pointing with great enthusiasm at something in the back of the car with great excitement. We offered several things including oranges and water, but it was about the 5th item offered that they wanted.
A roll of toilet paper.
After a further "conversation" without any common language, we started to head off again. As I accelerated I checked in the mirror. I could see only one kid and he was laughing and jumping up and down on the side of the track.
Then when we reached about 30kph, the second one appeared, in the thick dust, just behind the Mini.
He had been dragging along the road hanging onto the bumper bar.
He waved his arms and laughed as we drove away.
Cheers,
Peter

Peter the kids in Canada used to do this to me in winter, hanging on to the bumper when I stopped at a stop sign and enjoying the snowy and icy street.
One day I glanced at the rear of the car to see a glove jammed between the bumper and the rear panel.
I remember hoping that it had come off his hand easily and he had not been hurt.
Graham.
