Will be travelling across the Tanami later this year and will be seeking to buy diesel at Yuendumu and possibly Balgo. Does anyone know how reliable it is to purchase diesel from these communities please?

We've been up that way a couple of times and had no problems at Balgo or Bililuna, though at the former you need to be within weekday trading hours from memory

Thanks Wildmax, however, it was my understanding that at Balgo the fuel was available 24/7.

This comment is in the latest Birgit Kimberley newsletter

Reader Dave has this to say about the Tanami Road:
"The Tanami desert road from Alice Springs to the Granites is currently in the worst shape it has ever been. It is not suitable for any caravans, off road or otherwise. There are currently at least six triple road trains going in and out daily and they don't get through unscathed."
