Can any
forum contributor
hazard an informed guess as to when the GRR is likely to open this year?
I am hoping to be amongst the first one thousand or so cars over it.
Thanks
Ross

From my reading of this it is open to high clearance 4WDs with cautions
Enjoy it. Last year it was as dry and dusty ... This year it will be green and lush

While the
Gibb River Road itself is open to high clearance 4wd vehicles under 7 tonne, most of the 'side trips' to see the features are still closed, eg Bells
Gorge, Lennard
Gorge,
Tunnel Creek, Mornington, station stays, Road to Drysdale and
Kalumburu.

We have made 6 or 7 separate trips to the
Kimberley.
We have NEVER managed to get into
Bell Gorge. Always too wet when we arrived.
Cheers,

How disappointing Peter, yet you got to
Kalumburu which is usually the last road to be opened. Bells is beautiful, and we camped at Silent Grove
campground (the campsites along
Bell Creek had suffered damage from a fire, and were never re-opened). We were lucky that in June 2008, although unseasonal rain had closed the GRR for a few days just before we got there, everything was open, and the rain had given rivers and falls a boost.

Thank you Sigmund. You have provided me with material to give Google Translator a run. It worked
well ... I think. We didn't do Latin at
Bulahdelah Central School.
Cheers,
Kevin

Ross, the
campground anticipated opening dates (weather dependent) will give you an idea of when the different areas might be open.
