Hi all, just curious but does anybody know where that Caltex servo is that is featured towards the end of their latest TV add. It looks to be out in the bush but they can do all sorts of tricks with adds and it might not be out in the sticks as it appears.
It has bugged me ever since I first saw it. I tried to contact the add agency that put it together but they couldn't be bothered replying. No one will be shot or murdered if it remains a mystery, but the longer it goes on the more I am interested.
Cheers

There's no Caltex servo in West Wyalong, there's only Shell and BP servos.

The add I've seen is being shown in Queensland, the Caltex servo in West Wyalong is the one that is out of town a bit, not that far from the big truck stop.

There certainly is a Caltex servo here in town but it is right in town and it don't look anything like the one in the ad.
I wonder if there might just be a bit of photo shopping going on.

It most definitely is NOT the old Mount Lambie servo....Which was a BP one ...and...there is no straight road past it either. It was on a long radius curve at the top of the hill.
It used to be my required rest break stop for years when doing my nightly run to the big smoke and back 5 nights a week.

Cheers Keith
Nothin is ever the same once I own it ...........

Hi Graeme,
That's the add I was referring to. It is presently running in NSW.
Hi Pop,
There seems to be a bit of support for a servo in West Wyolong, but if you are there and can,t find it maybe it's not the one.
Seems like I've generated some interest. Keep trying guys !!

G'day Bill,

We came down the Newell A39 today from Forbes, Parkes direction so unless it is on the western side of town I should have seen it.

Bill - It's a PhotoShopped ad. There's no Caltex service station on any isolated country highway - they're all located in towns.

Type "caltex service stations" into Google and click on maps, then zoom out until you can see all the Caltex servos around Australia.
There's none in areas where there's no civilisation around it.
Even the one in Forbes is still within the town boundary - although Google has positioned it wrongly.

You can zoom in on any Caltex servo you select to check out, and drag the little yellow man to the spot to get the street view.
There's no Caltex servo that you can't get a street view of, in Google.

If you stop the ad at the 24 second mark, and go full screen, you'll see the servo looks a bit dodgy.
There's no driveway leading into it off the highway, no powerlines - and no trucks, as you'd expect in an isolated outback area.
Such is the subtle deviousness of marketing and advertising!

Cheers, Ron.

I am not sure if it is real or not. But if you look at the tight scent as the car drives out of the servo, there is a building to the left of the shot and trees above the roof line of that and the main building. The building and trees disappear in the final long shot.

Bring back Hey Hey it's Saturday LOL.

The Caltex at Dingo was pretty well out by itself even today it is not much different and the shed beside it is used for freight.

Slow one - The Caltex at Dingo has big trees all around it, power lines, street lighting poles, road signage - and the highway has an entry lane into the servo.
The Caltex ad shows none of those features.

Yep Ron and I never meant to say it was the one, the thing with it is it's stand alone, when you come from the east it has nothing around it.
Have had quite a few feeds there and dropped a bit of freight.

Bill here are the companies that worked on the production. No wonder an ad costs so much.

All the way

You could ask one of the production companies.

You owe it to the forum to chase this up now that you have everyone wondering where it is.

You are right Boobook, I have started something and I will go a bit further and try and find an answer. As I stated previously I sent an email to Burnett,s and followed it up as all I got originally was a standard "I,m not in the office" and my follow up got the same response, so I got a bit P.....d off and gave them the flick and put it out to the forum. Leave it with me.

Now this is really a stand alone servo. Many truck drivers will remember this.

Top of the hill or lights on the hill

West Wyalong is surrounded by farmland. The add maybe in the bush somewhere and the road is an east west direction. Looking at the horizon its sunset or sunrise time. But my guess its a photoshop job.
