10 days ? Let's put that into perspective. You need to get to
Ingham so the qucikest route would be to go up the Stuart H'way to the Alice then further just past
Tennant Creek and turn right down the Barkley H'way to Mt. isa then
Cloncurry and Charters Towers,
Townsville then to
Ingham. This route though dry in the centre may get quite wet on the coast during December. If one looks at the driving time:
Day#1
Adelaide to
Coober Pedy
Day #2 Coober Pedy to
Alice Springs
Day #3
Alice Springs to 3 Ways/ /
Tennant Creek
Day #4 Day #4 3 Ways to Mt. Isa
Day #5 Mt. Isa to
Townsville via.
Richmond,
Julia Creek etc.
Day #6
Townsville to
Ingham ... Remember you are now going to the wettest
places in Aus. during December.
Now going through the NSW / Qld. hinterland through the channel country via
Hebel and Dirrinbandi also involves long stretches of driving where if one gets summer rains even the bituman roads get quite slow.
Leaving Adl has some quite long stretches eg. Barrier H'Way to
Cobar,
To
Hay via
Mildura on the Sturt H'way (can have hold ups on the
bridge at
Renmark ) or to
Hay via the Murray Malee highway ( miss
Balranald).
Please remember that the Qld. Coast gets a bit of rain in December and tracking North to
Ingham but West of the dividing range is a bit slower.
Nice trip but alot of driving
Jerry.
