Hi there intrepid travellers.
We are looking at going to
Coffs Harbour for a look see in September School Holidays next year and thought we would start doing some homework. we take 2 weeks each year to travel and
camp. This year it is
Flinders ranges, so we thought we would plan our next one, and have gone through many of the Threads on the forums and have lots of info to help out, so thanks to all those who have previously commented.
The thing that amazes me is that all of Caravan parks listed seem to be booked out a year or more in advance for powered Camping sites. Is this real? Do they really book out this far in advance and is it hard to get accommodation if staying in a camper at a park?
Alternatively, we can be independent of any park, and can
camp remote for the two weeks, but not ever having been to this region at all, we were a little concerned about finding a
camp site after travelling from
Melbourne to get there.
Does anyone have any advice for a
camp site in the bush, near water, for a camper and small tent, that is quiet?
Any help is greatly appreciated, and thanks to all in advance,
Have a great day!

Hi - Have you tried Moonee Beach. A great spot just north of Coffs. I have no affiliation with this park but stayed there last year and had a great time. It is a very short run into Coffs from there. The park is right on the water.

I will second Moonee Beach. We camped here without power, down on the creek and enjoyed it. Had the grandkids with us and had a fire etc. Good spot.

Just north of Coffs there are two parks at Woolgoolga which is a pleasant spot away from the congestion of Coffs and even better is Corindi Beach Holiday Park, right on
the Beach and
Red Rock is also nearby. These last two are good old fashioned parks in top spots. Both good for fishing too. A good area,
well out of town (20 mins) as a base to explore the area.

There are 6 caravan parks between Woolgoolga and
Red Rock alone with varying levels of comfort and price, provided you don't want power you will get a site any time through Sept-Oct in any of them. They are Woolgoolga,
Arrawarra,
Darlington park (RACV/NRMA own it), Lorikeet, Corindi and
Red Rock.
There would have to be more than 20 CP within 35km radius of Coffs.
If you want to
camp at
the beach in a National park with composting
toilets and fire pits
check out
Pebbly Beach in Yuragair National park, about midway between Coffs and
Grafton. Brrilliant location but 30 minutes from any shops.

Station Creek? Very popular during holidays and weekends but a nice spot.
Mullaway is an overlooked little spot with a good variety of sites. Beaches are very close. A corner store near by that sells "good food not fast food", servo on the highway. No hotel or club or bottle which can be a good thing too, but only 7km from Woolgoolga and 35 (1/2 hour) from Coffs

Make sure you look at this park. It's just minutes south of Coffs and close to the water.

Good park, great location, shame about the undesirables which just wander through it at will at night.

Cruiser the 2nd time we went was January school holidays, local teenagers used it as a hang out and used it for under aged drinking with all the associated issues that brings.
Is a problem with any "in town" caravan park without adequate fencing.

You can also look south of Coffs.
We have stayed at
Urunga (many years ago). Brigalow is on the south side of town and on the river. It used to be very nice with lots of
open space (even at Christmas). Because it is away from
the beach it does not attract the surfers which means it is quieter and tends to be
young families or the retirees.
There is also a park near
the beach in
Urunga, could be called
Urunga CP. It too used to be very nice. Closer to
Urunga shops but a bit slower getting into Coffs.
There must be another dozen between
Urunga and Coffs. I would be very suprised if in September you couldn't just turn up and find something.

Firstly, Thank you to everyone who took the time to reply. Its great to have a support network of intrepid travellers to call upon in a time of needing real info.
We have decided to look at the Solitary Islands park North of Coffs, as we can hopefully pre book, we can view the site on the internet (works great) and we can hopefully have a little piece of solitude in among the holidaying hordes.
I hope i can be of help to the group one day!
Thanks
Nellyjr
